Poised to Lead: Professional School Counselor Academy 2017 (Tyler)

The Professional School Counselor Academy at Tyler is an extended professional development program conducted in three phases. Applicants must be committed to participating in all three phases:

Phase 1: Counselor Academy Fall Symposium | January 23-24 | Tyler, TX
Two-day symposium that provides participants with a strong foundation for understanding and implementing current counseling policies and procedures.

Phase 2: Spring Development Activities | Spring 2017
Online modules, action-learning projects, and other instructional resources provide participants opportunities to apply what they learn to real situations.

Phase 3: Counselor Academy Summer Symposium | Summer 2017 | Tyler, TX
The Professional School Counselor Academy concludes with a Summer Symposium where participants share promising practices and lessons learned, as well as gain additional information on how to be effective counseling leaders.

Hotel Arrangements
Rooms will be reserved for the Professional School Counselor Academy participants at the conference hotel for the night of January 23rd. A limited number of rooms will be available for January 22nd for those traveling a distance to Tyler– day one of the Academy begins at 10 am. Conference planners will make the hotel arrangements for attendees—Please DO NOT contact the hotel directly.

Academy Participation Fee – $250
The Professional School Counselor Academy is sponsored by the Texas Education Agency and implemented by Texas Tech University. If accepted, applicants pay a nominal fee of $250 to participate in all three phases of the Professional School Counselor Academy.

Fee covers instructional programming and materials for all three phases, plus:

  • Opportunity to network with Texas Education Agency and Education Service Center staff
  • Opportunity to network with professional school counselors from across the state
  • Opportunity to earn more than 20 CPEs
  • Lodging at Symposium hotel for Phases I and III
  • Working lunches during the Symposiums

Applicants will be invoiced for the $250 participation fee upon acceptance into the Professional School Counselor Academy. Payment will be due within 30 days of acceptance.
